Shorkie or Shih Tzu

A Designer Puppy Is Healthier Than A Purebred Right???

ladies and gents of the Court and passing travelers. The Queen has an opinion and is a strong one that may shock you! The answer is Noooooooooo! Nooooooo! Nooooooo!

As with any journey one embarks upon you will have ups and downs and cross roads to face.

From the very first time we started breeding Shorkie puppies it has been an uphill battle to say the least.

Many purebred breeders are very very offended by mix breeding and so they should be and for good reason.  These are the very same breeders that spend thousands of dollars on genetic testing and screening to ensure that the puppies they are producing are of optimum health. It is frustrating for them to see people just throwing two purebred dogs together will no goal in mind just to make a quick dollar. You will find many cheap shorkie puppies out there that are bred intentionally just to make a quick buck! I have never been one of those breeders and have always been of the belief that quality is not expensive it is  priceless.

We spare not cost on the genetic testing to our regular vet visits. Our dogs are our family members first and foremost. Their lives of are of the utmost importance to us.  Our goal as a breeder is to to produce healthy shorkie puppies and to ensure we  truly are breeding quality which is very very different from pet quality.

Purebred breeders are offended by the HYBRID VIGOR THEORY! and rightfully so!  It is just that a theory and not factual at all. It basically says that purebreds are not as healthy as mixed breeds.

Folks this is a SALES pitch and not at all true. It is also very offensive for all the years of dedication that goes into the breeding of a purebred bred.

It is not true that mixed breed dogs are free of genetic diseases due to “hybrid vigor,” Dr. George Padgett, a leading canine geneticist, wrote in Dog World in that mixed breed dogs can have the same genetic diseases as the breeds crossed to produce them. Padgett said that his files include information on 102 genetic defects identified in mongrel dogs, more than double the number identified in the Cocker Spaniel, one of the country’s most popular breeds.

So if you see this on any shorkie website

that hybrid vigor theory that they claim it to be the bases of their breeding program and cannot give you the genetic testing results they have done...RUN FOR THE HILLS. F1 breedings do not guarantee you a healthier dog! Quality breeders that screen for genetic issues are what you need to look for!

Usually they will say we have no health problems in our lines and just expect you to believe them ...don't take their word for it..Ask to speak to their vet!

Breeders that claim F1 (first generation shorkies) are all they produce are doing nothing to better the shorkie breed. Thye are doing a first generation mix of breeding with no future in mind for the breed and that is so sad.  The Shorkie has been around in lineage now for almost 2 decades and we have the records in the Shorkie Club Of America.

Thats the difference right there.

We are the only group dedicated to the ethical development of the

Shorkie as a breed.

Shorkie Club of America is passionate about the Shorkie Breed
